Sam Mullis, Jr. is president and CEO of the general partner that operates Mullis Newby Hurst, LP. Prior to founding Mullis Newby Hurst in 2002, he was with Dodson-Bateman & Company for 17 years as an executive vice president and shareholder. Mullis has also held surety and casualty insurance underwriting positions with the USF&G Companies in Dallas. He is active in numerous trade associations and has served on the boards of Texo, Associated General Contractors National Surety Council and the Construction Education Foundation. Mullis is a past board member of the Associated Builders and Contractors of North Texas and the National Association of Surety Bond Producers. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, Mullis holds a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in insurance and finance.
John Newby serves as executive vice president and COO of the general partner. Newby previously worked as assistant vice president for NAS Surety Group where he was responsible for its operations in the Western United States. During his 12 years in the surety bond underwriting field, he worked in California and Illinois with the Insurance Company of the West and Reliance Surety Company. He is an active member of several industry associations. Newby earned a MBA from Pepperdine University after receiving a Bachelor degree from the University of Michigan.
Don Hurst is the senior executive vice president of Mullis Newby Hurst's general partner. His impressive insurance career spans over 50 years, including positions with Willis Corroon Corporation, Alexander & Alexander of Texas and managing the operations and insurance portfolio for Dodson-Bateman & Company. Additionally Hurst had risk management responsibilities for the Murray Financial Group. He earned a BBA from Southern Methodist University and is a past board member of the QUOIN Chapter of the Associated General Contractors and during that period was the QUOIN representative on insurance for the DISD bond program.
Jan Johnson serves as senior vice president and director of insurance, capping over 30 years in the insurance industry. Prior to joining MNH, she was an account executive for Dodson-Bateman & Company and an account manager in the construction group at Willis Corroon. She has also worked for Alexander & Alexander of Texas and American States Insurance, with an emphasis on construction accounts.
Ray Watson is a senior vice president of Mullis Newby Hurst and previously operated his own agency, which specialized in surety bonds for contractors. Watson's successful surety career includes 24 years as an independent insurance and surety agent and 10 years as a bond manager and underwriter for the Kemper Insurance Group. He received the designation of Chartered Propery Casualty Underwriter in 1993. Watson earned a BBA from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Scott Stagner is vice president of Mullis Newby Hurst who has 30 years experience as a producer and marketing professional in the property and casualty insurance business with specialization focused on construction, trucking and real estate. Scott’s insurance career began with Texas Employers and Employers Casualty Company in 1980 including a tenure with Willis Corroon. Prior to joining Mullis Newby Hurst, he was a producer and marketing executive for Aon and Allied North America. Scott earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Real Estate and Finance from North Texas State University.
Troy Key is a senior account executive and bond manager of Mullis Newby Hurst. Prior to joining the agency, Troy was the regional bond manager for Crum & Forster. His surety background also includes several years underwriting for Safeco Surety and XL Surety. Troy received the designation of Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) in 2004, and currently serves on the board of the Dallas Surety Association. He earned a Bachelor in Business Administration from Texas A&M University.
Mike Wiggins is an account executive with Mullis Newby Hurst. Prior to joining the agency, Mike was a producer for Liberty Mutual in South Texas. His background involves property & casualty for construction related risks. He is an active member in TEXO, ASA and the Young Contractor’s Council. Mike earned a BS from Southwest Texas State University as well as holds the Construction Risk and Insurance Specialists (CRIS) Designation.
Aaron Endris joined Mullis Newby Hurst as an account executive. Previously he was the bond manager with another agency. His surety background also includes several years as a senior bond underwriter for Liberty/Safeco Surety as well as a board member for the Dallas Surety Association. He is an active member of several industry associations. Aaron earned his BBA from the University of Texas at Arlington.
